Media Statement

Islamic Society of Darwin Media Concerns 23 October 2016

It is with great sadness that we hear that some of our Members have approached Media regarding their internal issues, “This tragedy has shaken all of us”. As people of Iman (faiths) we must not allow anything to divide us and let’s work towards a better understanding of each other and put an end to the hate that leads to these atrocities.

It is essential that our community as a whole develop genuine engagement and sustainable cohesion amongst each other, without being driven by anger or hatred that alienates other Muslim Members from the rest of society to ensure stability and harmony is maintained in the community.

Finally, I Imam Daud Yunus hope that this devastating event will serve as a catalyst for the initiation of sincere attempts to identify and reduce enmity and other forms of hatred where they exist. By working towards a spirit of inclusiveness and a shared identity, we will be able to counter our minor differences with peace and love to create a more cohesive society.

Abu Huraira reported: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Love your beloved mildly, perhaps he will become hated to you someday. Hate whom you hate mildly, perhaps he will become your beloved someday.”
